For the first year of remote work, I used my laptop’s built-in microphone. Nobody told me I sounded like I was calling from inside a tin can, but in hindsight, I absolutely did. It is USB. You plug it into your computer, go to your video call app’s audio settings, select “FIFINE K669B” as the microphone, and you are done. No drivers, no audio interface, no XLR cables. It comes with a small tripod stand and a pop filter.

The mic has a physical volume knob on the front and a mute button. I appreciate the mute button being physical—no hunting for a software mute when the doorbell rings mid-call.

Sound Quality: The Giant Leap From Laptop Mic

This is a condenser microphone with a cardioid pickup pattern. Translation: it captures sound from directly in front of it and rejects sound from the sides and back. My keyboard clicks dropped by about 80%. My neighbor’s leaf blower became a faint background hum instead of competing with my voice.

The sound is warm and full, with noticeably more bass presence than a laptop mic. People on calls commented on the difference. My manager said “you sound like a podcaster.” That is the goal.

What It Is Not

This is not a professional recording mic. If you are recording vocals for music or voiceover work that needs to sound broadcast-quality, you will want something in the $100+ range like the Audio-Technica AT2020USB+. But for Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, and casual streaming, the FIFINE is more than good enough.

The tripod is short—the mic sits about six inches above your desk. I put mine on a stack of books to get it closer to mouth level. A $15 boom arm solves this permanently and also frees up desk space.
