I owned four bottles of glass cleaner before I organized anything. Could not find any of them when I actually needed one. Every cleaning day started with me digging through the cabinet under the sink, knocking over a bottle of bleach, and getting mad at my own house. The fix took one afternoon and cost about fifteen dollars.

Start by Purging

Pull everything out and lay it on the floor. You will find duplicates, half-empty mystery bottles, and three products that all do the same job. Keep one of each category and toss the rest. Old half-empty bottles get dumped down the drain and recycled. If you have not used it in a year, it is not a cleaning product, it is clutter.

Group by Job, Not by Bottle

This is the part that changed everything for me. Instead of organizing by brand or alphabetically, group supplies by the room they serve:

• Kitchen: degreaser, dish soap refill, glass spray, scrub brush
• Bathroom: toilet cleaner, tile spray, grout brush, squeegee
• Living spaces: all-purpose spray, microfiber cloths, duster

The Caddy Rule

Buy one plastic caddy with a handle. It costs about eight bucks. Put the everyday stuff in it: all-purpose spray, a couple of cloths, a scrub brush, glass cleaner. Carry the caddy from room to room. You stop hauling the entire contents of your cabinet around and you stop losing things.

The under-sink cabinet gets a shelf riser so nothing hides behind the pipes. Heavier bottles live on the floor, sprays on the shelf, cloths in a small bin on the door.

What Changed

Cleaning day used to take me an hour of fumbling plus actual cleaning. Now I grab the caddy, hit the kitchen, then the bathroom, and I am done. If a bottle lives somewhere, it goes back there before I put the caddy away. That one habit keeps the whole system working.

The best part? I found the three glass cleaners I already owned. I have not bought a new bottle in a year.
