The Lid Is Everything

Bins that stack securely have lids with a ridge or groove that the bin above locks into. Cheap bins have flat lids, so they slide around and tip over. The bins I kept have interlocking lids, and I can pull out the bottom one without the whole thing coming down.

What to Look For

• Interlocking lids that the bin above sits into.
• Clear fronts so you can see what is inside without opening them.
• Sturdy side walls that do not bow when stacked three high.

My Setup Now

I bought a set of matching bins in one size, which stacks cleaner than a mix of random ones. Each bin has a label on the front, and I can see the contents through the clear plastic. The interlocking lids mean I can stack them four high in the closet and still slide one out when I need it.

The mistake most people make is buying the cheapest bins and expecting them to stack. Spend a little more on interlocking lids and they last for years.
