For years my spice cabinet was a graveyard. I would buy a new jar of cumin, only to find three half empty ones hiding in the back when I got home. I probably threw away more expired spices than I ever used.

A two tier lazy susan fixed the whole thing for about fifteen bucks.

Why the spin beats a shelf

The problem with a normal shelf is that the front row blocks the back row. You see the same eight jars every day and forget what is behind them. A lazy susan rotates, so every jar eventually comes to the front without you digging.

1. Pull every spice out and check the dates. Toss anything expired or that has no smell left.
2. Put the tall jars in the back and the short ones in front.
3. Group things you use together, like baking spices on one side and taco seasonings on another.
4. Label the lids if you want to be fancy about it.

I went with a two tier model so I could fit twice as much in the same footprint. The top tier holds the small jars, the bottom holds the bigger bottles.

The rule that keeps it tidy

The other half of the fix is a habit: everything goes back label side out. It sounds obsessive, but when every label faces you, you can read the whole cabinet at a glance and you stop buying duplicates.

I will be honest, my first attempt was a cute wall rack I found online. It looked great for a week, then I got lazy and the counter clutter came back. The lazy susan works because it takes zero effort to maintain. You just spin it and grab.

I have not bought a duplicate spice in six months, and I can finally find the paprika in under ten seconds.
