The KonMari Folding Method That Doubles Your Drawer Space
The first time I saw a KonMari-folded drawer I was convinced it was a store display. Shirts standing upright in neat rows like files in a cabinet. I thought there was no way a normal person kept their clothes like that.
Six months later my own drawers look the same, and I can fit twice as much in them. The trick is simpler than it looks.

Fold, then stand it up
The whole idea is vertical folding. Instead of stacking clothes in a pile, you fold each item into a small rectangle and stand it on its edge. Everything stays visible, and nothing gets crushed at the bottom of a pile.
- Fold the shirt into thirds lengthwise
- Fold it in half or thirds again to make a rectangle
- Stand the rectangle on its edge in the drawer
- Line them up in rows
The folding pattern changes a little for socks, underwear, and pants, but the end goal is always the same: a rectangle that can stand on its own.
What surprised me
The space saving is real, but the bigger win is that you can see everything at once. No more digging for a specific black t-shirt and wrecking the whole stack. You open the drawer, glance, and grab.
I also stopped losing single socks. When socks are folded flat and stood up, the pair stays together and a missing one is obvious immediately.
Start with one drawer. Do not try to KonMari your whole closet in a weekend or you will burn out and quit. One drawer, see how it feels, then move on.
📋 Quick Summary: Fold clothes into small rectangles and stand them upright so you can see everything. It roughly doubles drawer space. Start with a single drawer.
