There’s a scuff on the hallway wall from where my kid’s backpack drags against it every single day. I tried wiping it with a damp cloth, then with spray cleaner. It just looked like a cleaner smudge.

How to do it right

1. Wet the eraser and squeeze out the excess. You want it damp, not dripping.
2. Rub the scuff gently in small circles. Don’t bear down, or you’ll buff the paint off along with the mark.
3. Wipe the area with a dry cloth to see your progress, then repeat if needed.
4. If the wall looks dull afterward, that’s just a clean spot. Let it dry and it blends back in.

Where to be careful

• Test in a hidden spot first. Magic erasers are mildly abrasive, and flat or matte paint can lose its sheen if you scrub hard.
• Skip it on glossy finishes. The eraser can leave a haze on high-gloss paint and lacquer.
• Don’t use it on your hands. It’ll dry your skin out fast, so wear gloves if you’re doing a whole wall.

The hallway looks like we never had a kid. For one scuff at a time, this beats digging out a paint can and a brush any day.
